Creating your first board

A board is the content shown on a screen, a message, a menu, a price list, a welcome or live data. You can build as many as you like and assign them to one screen or several.

Boards are made of lines (rows) of flap characters. You type your text, choose how many rows and columns the board has, and Split-Flap TV flips each character into place just like a real departure board. You can build a single message, a multi-line menu, or a board that mixes your own text with live variables like the time, weather or a follower count.

Everything is edited in the control panel on your phone or computer, so you never need to touch the TV once it's set up.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Open New board

In the control panel, choose New board to start with a blank board.

  2. 02

    Add your text

Type your message, or add a line for each item in a menu or list. Any character the board can't show is replaced with your chosen replacement character (an asterisk by default).

  3. 03

    Choose the layout

Set the number of rows and columns and pick portrait or landscape to match your screen, then choose your text colour.

  4. 04

    Add live values (optional)

Insert variables like the time, a date, a countdown, weather or a social count where you want a live value to flip in.

  5. 05

Assign to a screen and save

Assign the board to one screen or several, then save. The screen updates immediately.

§ Good to know
  • ·Bigger TV, bigger characters, the flap size scales to the screen, so you control how many characters fit per line.
  • ·Save several boards and cycle through them in a continuous loop for a rotating display.
  • ·Not sure what to write? Try the free board generator on the site to mock up a layout before you build it live.

Troubleshooting

A character shows as an asterisk

That character isn't in the board's character set, so it's shown as the replacement character. Stick to letters, numbers and common symbols, or change the replacement character in the control panel.
